What to wear for padel: the complete 2026 guide

3 October 2026

Newcomers to padel often underestimate how much their clothing affects the quality of their game. It is not just a matter of style: every piece of kit plays a specific role in supporting the fast, multidirectional movements typical of this sport.

For the top, a breathable technical shirt, slightly fitted but not tight, works best: it should follow the arm movement on a smash without restricting it. Avoid pure cotton, which traps sweat and weighs down your movements at decisive moments in the rally.

For the bottom, shorts or skirts with a comfortable waistband and stretch fabric allow for the frequent lateral lunges typical of padel, where you move much more horizontally than in the linear running of tennis.

Shoes are probably the single most important item: look for soles with a multidirectional tread pattern (not running soles), designed for sudden changes of direction and play close to the glass walls. A dedicated padel shoe significantly reduces the risk of slipping and ankle sprains.

Finally, do not forget the accessories: a cap for sun protection on outdoor courts, technical socks that reduce blisters and, if you play often, a spare shirt in your bag. These small details make the difference between an uncomfortable afternoon and one where you can focus purely on the game.
