How to choose the right padel racket

31 August 2026

Choosing the right padel racket makes a huge difference on court, but with hundreds of models available it is easy to feel lost. The first thing to consider is shape: round rackets offer maximum control and are ideal for beginners or players who mainly cover defensive roles. Teardrop-shaped rackets balance control and power, a good compromise for intermediate players. Diamond-shaped rackets concentrate weight toward the head, generating more power but requiring more technique to control.

Weight affects maneuverability: rackets between 350 and 370 grams are agile, suited to players who rely on quick reactions and touch; above 375 grams you gain power but lose speed when changing direction. The core matters too: EVA foam offers a softer touch and more control, while Foam cores are more reactive but less forgiving of mishits.

A practical tip: if you are unsure, start with a teardrop-shaped racket with an EVA core and medium weight (360-370g). It is the most versatile starting point to understand your own style before specializing further. And remember: no racket replaces hours on court, but the right one makes every session feel more natural.
